Top 5 Ways Moms Can Look Good and Feel Good

by Theresa Pham

Raise your hand if you’ve ever told yourself, “Oh boy I’m on the hot mess express, but I’m just going to roll with it”. Your shirt is inside out, you’re not sure if you packed a bottle, and for the love of God, where is that Sophie giraffe?! I don’t know about you, but my hand is waving in the air like a wild woman right now. Some days, I’m practically the main conductor of the hot mess express. But not every day has to be like this.

Here’s my top 5 tips on how moms (and women in general) can look good and feel good despite leading hectic lives. Before we roll right into the list, looking and feeling good is most definitely a state of mind -- always remember to do YOU at the end of the day.

1. Throw on Some Mascara or eyeliner or better yet, get lash extensions!

Mascara is magic. While doing your complete makeup routine may not always be feasible, a few coats of mascara can open up your eyes and give you a completely new look -- one that makes you appear more awake than a few minutes ago. Or if you’re like me, as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my second child my next thought was I need all things quick, convenient, and low maintenance. Skip the mascara altogether, I gotta get lash extensions! The less sleep and energy I have the more I’ll need to look awake and fab and this will do just the trick! Not to mention I‘m guaranteed one hour of sleep a month while I get my lashes done.

2. Check out a Blow Out Bar

Some may say blow out bars are not worth the time or money. While that may be true, they are a great way to spend an hour to yourself getting glam. These bars specialize in refreshing your hair-do (curly, straight, waves, updo’s you name it), all the while giving you the opportunity to catch up on the latest magazine or chatter with your friends. You’ll leave with a new style, ready to take on the day.

3. Make Gymwear the New Womenswear

I believe this new movement is called “athleisurewear” and I’m loving it. it’s the one look where you don’t actually have to work out to dress like it. As a mom, you’re likely active for around 20 hours of the day. So this should be no problem! Most likely, you’re around the house or hitting the playground with the little ones. Use this opportunity to put together a fitness workout outfit. It can be really easy to go days without changing out of sweats and tights -- no reason not to try to pair it with neutral tops to get the right look, as well.

4. Mani - Pedi Date

Whether you decide to go to the salon or do it at home, set aside some time for a mani pedi date with your friends and children. It’s a great way to interact, the kids will be occupied, and you’ll come away with a set of fresh nails.

5. Treat Yo’ Self

Finally, we end with this mantra. Motherhood is not easy, heck, life is not easy. It’s important to take a moment to treat yourself. Whether it’s buying new jewelry or simply running to the mall and sampling every product at Nordstrom -- you can do that! You just have to give yourself permission to.
